Looks like my first prenatal visit came a little earlier than expected. On Sunday night my leg started bothering me. Of course, me being me, got totally paranoid. I called my insurance company's "on call" service, which told me that I should see my OB. So I call on Monday, and being the awesome doc that he is, he tells me to come in right away. I wake up Mariah, we sit in traffic, we wait in the waiting room, we wait in the doctor's office, and finally we are seen. Doc right away tells me not to worry, that this type of vein thing is not the vein thing that can kill you. Hence the term Superficial Thrombophlebitis. However, he tells me according to law I need to undergo a type of xray to ensure there are no problems. I thank him profusely, and he takes Mariah and gives her candy... therefore securing his place as her favorite person! The nurse calls the testing center (also located in the hospital) and they say they can see me right away... great! Mariah and I walk and walk and walk until we get there only to enter the following situation.
Receptionist: Do you have an appt?
Me: No, but my doctor just talked to you 30 seconds ago.
R: Did he know your daughter was with you?
Me: (thinking) She did just tear up his office for an hour!
R: Cause she can't go in with you.
Me: Ok, what should I do.
R: Hold on.... (she calls her supervisor) My supervisor says you can't take the baby with you and she can't watch her and neither can I.
Me: (completely dumfounded) OK, so what should I do?
R: Here, (hands me phone) call your doctor.
Me: (on the phone with doc and explain situation... he says schedule an appt for tomorrow...DUH?!?!?!?!?) OK, I'd like to schedule an appt for tomorrow.
R: Ok, (hands me phone) you can call this number, we don't make appts in the office.
Me: (thinking) ARE YOU FREAKING KIDDING ME?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!
Either way, I do have an appt in the morning, and will be sure to drop Mariah off at preschool beforehand :)

The trouble with doctors
For the past few months I have been taking to medications, one for a shoulder injury and one for anxiety. I can't take either while I am pregnant. I talked to my Ob and asked to be switched to something safe for pregnancy to which he replied that I had to contact my PCP since he was the one who originally prescribed the meds. So of course I called him. What did he say? Talk to your Ob because he will know better what is safe for pregnancy. Called the Ob back and got the same response!!!! Called the doctor back and asked him if he had time if HE could call the Ob and discuss it with him because I was getting NOWHERE!!!! He finally said just stop taking everything, and if a problem arises later, that we would cross that bridge then. Talk about driving me crazy though.
The hardest part about keeping this pregnancy a secret until the time is right is my diet. I had gestational diabetes during my last pregnancy, and have started eating the diabetic diet again since I found out about number 2. No problem at home, but I haven't eaten with say... my mother... since I found out. I have a feeling she will figure things out way before I say anything. :)

Two little lines
Yesterday we saw them, those two little pink lines. Obviously no one else knows yet, but I decided this time around I was going to join the digital age and blog about my pregnancy. It's exciting and scary, of course. I don't have a doctor's appointment until the end of November, the 10 week mark. Of course, now that I think about it, none of you are going to get to read this until then anyways! :)
